THE GIRL WITH THE THIRD EYE
FINAL EPISODE
She looked at Jacob again, and noticed something else that took her breath away!
The second image of Jacob was not playing a video game now! It was holding a diamond necklace!
Suddenly, everything became clearer to Rose!
Her mother had not stolen the diamond necklace. Jacob had stolen it! That was why only he had a double image in the room!
Rose took off the spectacles and pointed a trembling finger at Jacob, who was staring at her with panic on his face.
“He stole the necklace!” Rose screamed. “It wasn’t my mother! It’s your only son who stole your necklace, Mrs. Martins!”
“Are you out of your senses, little girl?” Mrs. Martins screamed. “Are you calling my son a thief? Policemen, please drive that little twerp out of here!”
“Rosie, Rosie!” Daddy called in a scared voice. “Please don’t cause any more trouble!”
Rose put on the spectacles and looked at Jacob again. She saw that the image that was holding the necklace was no longer in the chair, but it was walking out of the door!
Rose jumped to her feet and rushed outside. The image of Jacob had taken a left turn and she followed.
Behind her came the other people in the room.
Rose followed the image of Jacob through the beautiful garden to a basketball court. There was a small briefcase lying on a bench on the court. The image of Jacob stooped low and dropped the necklace into the briefcase.
And then, amazingly, the image disappeared!
Rose was afraid. There were goose bumps all over her skin. She could not believe what she had just seen. The strange spectacles had just shown to her that Jacob had stolen his mother’s diamond necklace and hidden it in his briefcase!
She turned round slowly. Her father and all the other people were behind her, watching her with confused eyes.
She took off the spectacles and looked at Jacob. He was looking terrified, and his face was drenched with sweat.
Once again Rose pointed at Jacob.
“Jacob stole the diamond necklace and hid it in this briefcase,” Rose said softly.
“How dare you!” Mr. Martins shouted. “I’ll lash the skin off your back for this!”
Mr. Martins rushed at Rose angrily. Rose jumped back to escape his outstretched hands, and then Mr. Martins’ shins crashed into the bench. The bench fell, and the briefcase also fell, and sprung open… and sticking out of it was the glittering chain of the diamond necklace!
“There it is!” Daddy cried excitedly. “My daughter is right! The diamond necklace is inside that briefcase! Your son stole it!”
The other people were frozen with shock.
Jacob began to weep sadly and dropped to his knees in front of his father.
“I’m so sorry!” he wailed. “I needed some money. I stole the necklace! Please forgive me!”
Daddy embraced Rose.
“How did you know he stole it, Rosie, dearest?” Daddy asked.
Rose began to tell him about the special spectacles Aunt Linda had given her, but then she stopped. It would be her little secret, at least for now!
“I always see Jacob putting stuff in his briefcase whenever Mommy and I come here to wash clothes,” Rose said.
Mr. Martins got to his feet slowly. He and his wife looked really ashamed.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Addo,” Mr. Martins apologised to Daddy. “Please accept my deepest regrets!”
“Just get my wife out of jail this minute!” Father said angrily.
Mrs. Martins had tears in her eyes. Slowly she dropped to her knees in front of Daddy.
“I’m so ashamed!” she whispered. “I was so mean to your wife! Please forgive us, we beg you!”
Later that evening, the Martins drove Mommy home.
Rose ran hard and embraced her mother. They held each other tightly and both shed happy tears.
Rose was so happy! It felt so good having her mother back.
Mr. and Mrs. Martins gave Mother a lot of money.
“Please forgive me,” Mrs. Martins apologised again.
“It’s alright,” said the kind-hearted Mommy. “I forgive you.”
That night Rose cleaned the spectacles carefully with a soft clean cloth and put it back in its box and put it under her pillow.
