ROSE ANGEL SERIES
THE GIRL WITH THE THIRD EYE
EPISODE 1
Rose Addo was ten years old.
She was an only child, and she lived with her parents.
Her parents were poor, so they lived in a building which was uncompleted.
Her father was a plumber; he did not make a lot of money.
Her Mommy sold charcoal on a table in front of their house.
On Saturdays, Mommy would go to the houses of some rich people and wash their dirty clothes, and they paid her for this service.
Rose attended the local government school. She was very clever, and as a result, she was given a scholarship by the District Assembly. This meant that her school fees were not a problem to her poor parents anymore.
Rose was a kind girl. She always tried to help others, and because of this people began calling her Rose Angel.
There was an old woman who lived in a rented house a short distance from Rose’s school. Rose called her Aunt Linda. The old lady loved corn porridge, so on most mornings, Rose stopped at Aunt Linda’s house to cook the corn porridge for her.
Since Rose always walked to school, she had to wake up early and do her house chores before hurrying to Aunt Linda’s house to cook porridge. Sometimes, Aunt Linda went to church in the mornings, and she would ask Rose to help her tie a scarf around her grey hair, and afterwards Rose would clean Aunt Linda’s spectacles for her.
Aunt Linda lived alone because her only daughter had refused to have anything to do with her. This made Rose sad because she felt Aunt Linda needed to be with her daughter and grandchildren.
One day, she wrote a letter to Aunt Linda’s daughter after finding her address in a small book Aunt Linda had left in the kitchen. She had to save her lunch money for a whole week before she was able to board a tro-tro bus to the post office to post the letter.
One Monday morning, when Rose reached Aunt Linda’s house, she saw a huge truck parked outside the house. Some men were loading Aunt Linda’s bags and furniture into the truck.
Rose was alarmed. She thought something very bad might have happened to the dear old lady. And she rushed into the house.
She saw a man in the yard giving instructions to the men carrying the bags. Rose greeted the man, and he smiled at her.
“Please, sir, Aunt Linda is my friend,” Rose said shyly. “Please, where is she? Is she alright?”
“Oh, you must be Rose Angel,” the man answered. “I’m happy to meet you. Aunt Linda told me you would come around this morning. I’m Mr. Asamoah. I’m married to Aunt Linda’s daughter, so I’m her son-in-law.”
Rose was very happy.
“Oh, Aunt Linda’s daughter finally came for her?” she asked with bated breath.
“Oh, yes,” Mr. Asamoah said and held Rose’s shoulder warmly. “Thanks to the letter you wrote to my wife, we all came here over the weekend to visit her. Mother and daughter made up their differences, and we decided to take her to our house to live with us that same day. I’m now coming for her belongings.”
“I’m so happy for her!” Rose Angel said, and her eyes filled up with tears of happiness.
“We owe you a great deal for being so helpful to Aunt Linda, Rose,” said Mr. Asamoah warmly. “I’ll give you our number. When you vacate from school, please give me a call. I’ll come and ask your parents’ permission and take you to the city to visit Aunt Linda and my family.”
“Oh, I’ll love that very much!” Rose shouted. “I must run along now, Mr. Asamoah. I’m almost late for school.”
“I almost forgot this,” Mr. Asamoah said as he took a small black box from his pocket and handed it to Rose. “Aunt Linda asked me to give this to you.”
Rose took the box, thanked him and put it into her school bag and ran to school.
